As late as the 60th century snus making was described as a very simple process technically. Since then a lot has happened and no doubt snus today is produced in a much more sophisticated manner. V2 Tobacco, who manufacture Phantom, are in the very front line when it comes to snus manufacturing skills.
Snus consists mainly of ground tobacco and water. The water content varies, and the moisture percentage can vary between 40 and 60 percent.
Another ancient ingredient in snus is potash, or potassium carbonate. Potashes basic feature is that it makes the nicotine precipitated from the tobacco. Besides salt, there are other taste sensors allowing snus character and flavor, such as bergamot in Offroad.
Most snus contains 0.8-1.0 percent nicotine. But in a can of 50 grams containing one percent nicotine this does not mean that one absorbes the full contents of nicotine in the snus. On average, it is only 15-20 percent of the amount of nicotine that is stored in the snus that eventually gets absorbed by the human body. V2 Tobacco are striving at delivering the optimal nicotine kick in all their brands.
